cold feet.......

One of the problems when winter fishing off the kayak is getting cold feet.
Last year i found that with the dry suit and layers under it, i was toasty, but the old hooves were very cold.
I was using open cell neoprene short booties and when they get wet, the cold comes through to the pinkies.
So i just got some equestrian yard boots (closed cell neoprene wellies!)and some high tog socks.
The boots were got online and were cheap, the socks were got from a farmers Co-Op.
I will test them during the coming months and edit this post with the results.

weather turning nasty

Its blowing mad outside now...and that's a pity... the tides are big this weekend and the chances of Bass are slipping away now...
Don't know if i will get out......

flies......

Someone asked me about the flies i used in the last post,
The mullet like the Czech Nymph...bead head.. i think it was olive and amber colour..
The small Bass went for a bread/egg fly in all white....
The Problem with this mark is the number of mullet... there are so many close together, you end up getting line knocks and foul hooks... but a slow retrieve seems to get a take or two..

Golden Grey Mullet soup.

Kayak(s): P 13
Duration:2.5 hrs
Tide:flooding 3.9 meter
Weather: windier than expected (not me )
Bait: flies
Rigs:9# fly rod wit floating weight forward line and drennan 10lb leader tipped with 4lb fluoro and size 12 flies
Results: one Golden Grey ...two school Bass.. and lost two golden grey Report:paddled out to the spot and it was mullet soup... fished away and foul hooked and landed a G.G.
...then ..hooked up a perfect take in front of the yak and my line-joining knot gave way .....5h1t!
again got a perfect take and the fly popped out of its mouth....
really bad luck and getting a dent in me carma...
Later changed to a bread/egg fly... and hooked up straight away... a school Bass... had another, three casts later, and they wreaked the flies!
Getting dark now and i had planned to stay out if calm but it was too lumpy and getting worse..
home James... Very enjoyable but pity it was rough...
i would have got more in the dark im sure...
safety first!

Bass-less again......

Well ..went to a spot i know and just before the 4meter tide turned to go out of the harbour, i set up and fished hard.
The bait fish were getting swept out with the tide and the terns and gulls were feasting on them.
But again, not a sign of MR. Labrax.
I had a text from K2 ...he was out early that morn with fresh clam over another favourite spot and not a bite....
Poor i thought, the conditions were good...but I'm sure they were jumping on to someone else hooks somewhere in the harbour??

Pollack on a jelly slug type thing....

Same same...

selection of lures and jelly's

This one took the polack...

Dark now on the rocks and in deep water.. i wear a PFD....and head torch...

Cant see much now so off home i think....carefully!

sept blues..but the Macks are finally breaking and there were sprat!

well it was beautifull tonight ... sun sea and mack breaking...sprat under the yak (spot them in one of the photo's)...and apart from a very hungry mack... nothing!
Now the lures and jellies i used are for Bass..so i didnt want macks.. but i sure thought they would be under the breaks???
Thats fishing....a great night on the water... sorry about the Russian on the radio, but a very large ship in!!

tough times..

Out tonight from shore with my fly rod and it was very windy.
The sea was like coco close to the shoreline and my fly was not visible in six inches of water... looks like the bait i collected last week may be used sooner rather than later....
