Out hunting this morning before work, and my God it was a bit scary.... yip... wild and free, but not a sign of any fish...and i took the time to look!
Ducking the waves and enjoying the wind and rain...and practicing my shore casting....yes i enjoyed the whole thing ....

March Pollack!

A great day on the water, and with mullet and sand eel about it wont be long till the silver ladies arrive!
First fish on the ysak!

Redgill Evolution.

Going to have some fun off the kayaks with these later this season.
Red Gill Evolution lures, at 17 grm and 178mm perfect for Bass and Pollack.
Also, they are quiet supple and have a good wide hook gape, so you can crush the barb and still land the fish.
I had some great success with the Perfeel red gill lures which are smaller and unweighted, but these will suit the Ysak Kayak spinning with a short rod and easy to set up while afloat.. no extra weights needed, just tie them on!
Come on the silver ladies!
Im waiting...............................

First bash at the fish off the Ysak.......

Up at 06:00 and off to Roches point, the weather forecast was really good, so i was sure i could get outside the harbour for a crack off the spring pollack.
And i was right, it was perfect, so rigged up and i head for the mark armed with several soft plastics..Finesse worms Hogy's and Perfeel redgills... all mounted on 10 gr. jig heads.
I was using the small kids rod which is the perfect size handle but a little light if you hook into something bigger...i must have a look for a new rod...
Fished along the rough grounds for several hours both jigging..casting..and trolling but not a touch....
The highlight was a ship coming out of the harbour with Dolphins jumping at its bow...too far for my phone cam though...
Anyway, some pics of the morning!

Ysak......

Some cargo bungee fitted tonight at the huge expense of €3.50...handy to hold a box of lures or a bottle of water...but i am told its a hook magnet...so barb less it shall have to be...lol....

Fishing in the Buff...........................

While getting some yak stuff last week, i came across a stand with some "Buffs"...
Its a kind of scarf/snood thing, and i had seen them used on YouTube, so i thought...I'm having one of those...

So i ordered a Buff...and its one of the anti UV range...95% protection....
So far i have used it on my bike cycling in the dark and cold...Its GREAT!
This morning cycling in the dark and rain to work it worked a treat to keep me cosy...and later on when the sun shines, a peaked hat and a buff will keep the sun burn away....so here's a link.....

Maiden voyage...

Maiden voyage yesterday....the forcast was only ok, but it was my only chance to get out on the ysak to wet the boat.
Drove to Roches point only to see massive swell running in...so back to aghada pier, flat calm and little wind. Launched and found the "tippy" thing a bit nerve racking at start, but relaxed into it and headed for East ferry.Got to the back of Cobh island and noticed the wind had come up, so i looked at the gps trip and it says 5 klics...better turn back?
Wind in my face all the way back and the s...ea chop was way up...so white knuckle ride all the way back, but as long as i was moving she cut through the water ..not pleasent though...rain and wind in your face...so i called it a day.. but NO PHOTO'S..because i was afraid to take the phone out of the dry bag and i couldnt stop in the squall...next time..
All in all delighted with her, an instant confindence boost i guess what with the conditions and all ....10Klics on her maiden voyage! not a bother!
