Kayak Mullet.....

A session on the kayak with bread as bait. Filled an onion style sac with lots of bread and hung it off the side of the kayak, while at anchor. The tackle is a Rovex kayak rod and shimmy reel loaded with 6 lb mono to a bubble float or free lined with a Drennan size 10 specialist hook. Once they start feeding cast to the fish and prepare to get mad!!!
Eventually when you calm down you should have some luck!!
Great fighters and plenty of them out there...so give it a go!

Not yet.......

I was totally convinced I would be catching my first Bass of the season this wed. morning. I arrived to clear calm water and nice weather...8:00am ...a little chilly at times but great all in all.
Soft plastic lures were flung about with slow twitches and varying retrieves....and later, hard lures.
I noticed no Terns ...and no Gannets...nothing...in fact I did not see any sign of any fish life at all in the clear water and rock pools.
The Bass ban comes closer each day.....lol!
That's fishing!

First shore recon for Bass 2013....

Out for my first shore ramble the other day. The weather looked good, although the water is still a little chilly. I chucked some hard lures around and after an hour i felt that nothing was going to happen...it seemed a bit bleak even though the weather was good...well for a while...a huge blanket of sea fog came in and the temperature plummeted.
So after about three hours i headed for home....blank!
I watched the terns ...very few dives and the lone Gannet seemed to give up just like me...that's fishing!

The fog was a bit damp and cold and a reminder of the recent cold snap.......................

A different colour to try...

A Savage gear Prey 11.5cm "smolt" 18 gr. suspending.

Time to try a few different colours this year (as long as the lure has a nice tight wiggle) and more of an effort on the fly too...sorry about the blurry pics...

Wont be long now....I hope!

Well the new boat is on order, its a Delphin 155 surf. This is way more suited to the type of fun I have been looking for....that said, i have been doing an awful lot of kayaking since last April, so from now on its time to pack the kayaking reports back in their correct location on the blog! I hope the Bass season will be better than last year though!

Its quiet out there.....

Poked my nose outside Cork Harbout on Saturday. I began with soft plastics and lasted about 30 minutes, the swell had me feeling green! Later i moved inside to chance some feathers and only managed a tiny coalfish....it was bitter cold!
