Stolen Honwave and engine.

Jim Clohessy, a well respected angler here in Cork has had his boat stolen last night inc.engine...a long shot ..but if we use our blogs and facebook pages to get the word around it may help to recover it if it comes up for sale.
This can happen to any of us, so if yea can spread the pic/ word it would be great!

Level 2 kayak course first night.

Well one down four to go...a cold wet windy night and I'm not feeling 100% either.
But i really enjoyed it and thank God for dry suits!
Because i had one on I got to do more....
And i did my first wet exit...yahoo!

Funny we were in small white water style boats and when we all launched we paddled around in circles like ducklings until we got a feel for it...lol...
Once this is done i will join the club and get a solid roll down!

Irish Kayak Angling safety day!

A fantastic day out on the water, and the weather was great!
It began with some safety talk out on the water, and then our re-entry drilling and after that some general messing about in and out of the yaks, all the time in very deep water and great all round re-entry practice.Later we moved to the incoming rapids and did some paddling against the current and turning maneuvering in fast water.. also jumping in and "staying with the yak" in fast water.In the end we found ourselves running the rapids in and out of the yaks...great fun!
Back to dry land for some hypothermia and CPR talks and demonstrations also looking at various safety equipment and questions and answers.
And some grub on the BBQ...awesome after all that (thanks Pat)and some general chin wagging.....
Oh and a little fly hunting for mullet in Rosscarberry, but no joy there!

So so close!

Well... I'm on evenings this week, so i got up early, to a frosty start and headed to an East Cork mark. And to sum it up, i had a few hours of lure fishing with the feed shallow 128 and an Amikiri minnow, and nothing.But when i headed back to the car i thought i would have one or two more casts and on my second, a lovely Bass charged in at the lure only to peel off at the last second right at my feet......so close to a start for my season!
And the fish are here now for sure, being caught on lure!
That's fishing!
Next week i have two kayak safety courses to do and the sea kayak one will run for the next 5 weeks.. AND I have to start paddle training for Ocean to city, and get a cycle or two in and CATCH A BASS!!!!
Time is everything!

Safety Meet.

Summer still not here....good friday Bass hunt.

Well, got to the beach and it looked great, a slight surf to punch through.. not a problem... although the landing later might be interesting!
Met some surf casting chaps and a quick question..."any luck?"...."No!...but the weather is nice..."
This would sum up my day!!
Headed off through some very familiar marks to throw a lure (feed shallow mullet 128) and worked my way along and again as i went i could see nothing in the form of surface activity or birds moving.
A lone Gannet swirled and swirled and dived ...nothing...he is having the same luck as me!
Switched to soft plastic (SP) and trolled a Red Gill evolution in pearl and later blue/white....nothing...stopped up and drifted on the wind offshore (quite a bit in the end!)and jigged the RG evo.... thought i had one knock on it, but cant be sure...
So then after a couple of hours and needing a pee i found a very nice bay.
Its the kind of place you would love to camp out..no access, only by sea and very deep water a few yards out.. in high summer a great place to fish for mack/pollack/and Bass and live off the sea!
Sadly the plastic problem was pretty severe and a good cleanup is needed...but with no access,not going to happen.........sad and a pity!
Time to head back and batten down the hatches!
I could hear surf running so packed some stuff in the hatch and off we go!
But, a very easy surf landing later, and i felt so robbed! I stripped the yak down and went back out to mess in the waves and practice getting back on....only one real good wave back in, but still very good fun!
I still have two leaks in my dry suit to find!!! Bloody nuisance!
The high light for me was spotting a pair of Terns...and one dived in vain right in front of my yak, so another good sign i guess?

Still no luck....

I was out last Thurs morning for a few hours with the fly rod, and had a good look about.
The sea was flat calm, so spotting fish moving was easy.But not a sign of life in the water...i watched two Gannets and they didn't dive much.I also spent some time up on a high spot just looking for fish in the clear water and nothing.
But i hear a few fish were caught in Kinsale on lure, so wont be long now!
Once again the dream of an early fish is gone...ah well.. roll on the summer!

Sea was a bit rough today...

So a quiet spot was chosen to shelter me from the south easterly winds, to do some re-entry drilling and a little troll or two!
