Grass Marlin.

Summer Cod.

I was sitting there tackling up and looked up for no reason to see a basking shark swim off my bow about 20 feet away...UNREAL... and my phone was in my dry bag....i sat looking at it swimming not feeding... and it was at least the size of my P13....maybe more not sure... it took me by surprise...big smile on my face!!
Black feathers went down and bang... brace of pollack up.
O.K. get the phone out...
feathers down again and bang...feathers gone....S**t....
Jellys on and more pollack ...then some cod (new species)and more pollack during the day...
Later while trolling back to shore had more pollack and a Mack.(new)
Two more species to add to my yak list.........now.......would a Basking shark take a bit of cheese?
The sun shined...but the wind blew and the swell was big at times but flat...a bigger drogue than my H20 one would have been better......
More feathers needed.....i like the plain old fashioned ones ..black or white.....

Mullet poo bait!

Going to try this for the mullet next few trips...can you spot the fly?
Its breakfast cereal by the way!!!

Yakpollacking

Finished work early and got a free pass with the good weather, skipped dinner had cheese on toast and threw me gear in the car.
Fly rod set up sinking line with sparse clouser.
Got loads of small pollack and saw a basking shark in the distance.biggest about 2lb(not the shark )...lost count..
Crushed the barb and lost the best fish at the side of the yak..he was goin back anyway...
They hit hard at the take ..even the little uns...
Did some trolling later and they were on fire! Rod rattling every time...dropped the fly and line at one point and ..yip..fish on..but tiny..proper little predators...
Had some new rigging to try..worked fine and i used the grip lead anchor set up...PERFECT!
Very enjoyable... wanted to paddle to the shark but two many boats about...next time ..it looked big!!

Used a jelly eel, jigging for the two pollack above a few days before..Storm eel and berkley jig head...

Bass ban looms.

Out on wed. 12th of May for an evening trip on the Yak.
Used jelly's and fly rod with clouser......
One follow from a Launce...not a sign of a Bass...some mullet there though.
Might give the mullet a serious go during the Bass ban, and remember to return any Bass caught during the ban, in the water if possible...Tight lines!

Jig Heads.

Jig heads are very handy ways of using the many "jelly" lures on the market, they come in different weights too...
Above is a Storm sand eel and Berkley gulp sand eel on the bottom.
The jig is an owner powerjig 21gram.

A week in Kerry and first Bass of the season.

A few days in kerry, and 3 trips out...weather good but very cold north winds..result...2 garfish on a silver/blue Toby and 3 small school Bass on a jig head and jelly sand eel...fished over clean ground (sand) at low water VERY early in the morning.
The season begins.........
