Poor beach fishing.

Went out to a beach mark in east Cork with a buddy from work.
The plan was to fish a good 4.1 meter tide as it flooded in over clean and mixed ground, using crab, squid, and mack for bait.
Sounds good..eh?
well ..we arrived to find a lovely surf and a little weed (this posed no problem) so we were optimistic.

Set up and baits flew out near and far..single clipped down and two hook flappers(can you see him?)

Hours went by and bait came back each time not touched...not even crabs around..not a doggie on the mack...nothing.....

The highlight of the night were the ginger snaps!!
Now i know the "deep water" marks are catching around county Cork.....but it would be nice for a return of the catches of a few years ago, off the beautiful beaches around Cork.

On another note...i found a cracking crate for my P13..fits well.. is tough..and more space ...only a tenner!

Next week...... something very different for me!!

Sat. outside Cork harbour.

Went out for a morning fishing on Sat 23 Jan.
I was out on the water for sun up, and first cast resulted in a strap conger.
For the next few hours i fished on with Mack and squid for bait and landed 7 Dog fish..all nice and plump.

Rigged and ready.

Ships coming in to Cork.

Sun coming up time to fish.

Nice and well fed.
More new species for me off the Kayak...so well pleased!
All were returned unharmed.
A small T bar helps with the unhooking.

Prelaunch overview.

This is a larger view of the yak ready to launch. Later in the spring i will also have a fly rod attached to the rod holder by the front hatch and a proper trolling and bait rod with a multiplier reel on the back with the spinning rod. There is a drogue and anchor in the crate with a bait bucket and the C-tug trolley is stored in the front hatch. Three rods to cover all angles, bait/fly/lure or jelly's......the drogue is used to slow your wind drift while you fish and if you find the fish you can anchor up for a while.

Ringabella Bay Cork.

out in ringabella bay today.. had some squid left in the freezer to use up.Lovely day from 11.30 ish to 4 ish on the water.Flat calm water with little or no wind .
Tried several spots an anchor and several drifts with no results!! Better bait may have helped?Would love to have had some lug and mack. Even did some trolling with jelly shad over shore reef. I think the night time would be better but not for me I'm a newbie! Tried the c-tug...i will need to practice wit it!!!!!
Some pics below..

Replaced my Cam. Phone and the video seems improved (more meg. pixel)
Looking forward to getting more video shots in the spring/summer.

Not a good night.

Out the other night for a cast and had razor/clam/squid and mack for bait.
Trundled out to a rocky mark with deepish water and set up. First bait out was a nice clam and after 10 min a solid bite which resulted in a very nice sized K9.
But while lifting him up i heard a funny noise and when i checked my rod the tip ring was snapped off!
Ouch!
I dropped the doggy back to the water and inspected the damage....ah well ...
I fished on but the line kept wrapping around the tip section, so after another while i packed it in.
A repair will be done over the weekend.

Not nice on your first cast.

Also ...... i had company for a good while ............

Dusting off the beach caster.

Got my beach casting gear out the other night to try for a cod or whiting off a Cork beach. The rod is a Century 14" with a Penn Surf master 70 reel and Penn long distance Surf Co-polymer line.
My rig was a home made 70lb body with a single snood clip down (Gemini clip) with a size 4/0 Kamasan B940 hook ..all ending in a break out lead about 4oz.
The idea is to chuck a big bait out(tied on with bait elastic) as far as possible at night and hope a big fish will slurp it up
The bait i had were some Razor clam i collected a few months ago and frozen down, and some Ammo blast frozen Mack.
I set up and cast out and it flew away nicely.....so i hadn't lost my touch after six months of lure casting!!
Or so i thought ...the next one cracked off mid cast, and i stood there in the dark up to my waist in water, with one hand over my head and eyes squeezed shut waiting for the return to earth!
Very nice......
Anyway................after several hours fishing all the baits came back untouched (not even crabs about).
Then i had one massive bite and the rod slammed over and and back ...i waited...nothing.... after a while i inspected the bait and it was torn badly .....something big??
A Bass??
Who knows?
Nothing more for the night and home i went.
I dont mind too much because i got the gear out and it all works (apart from catching fish).

Bait ready to fly....................

Playing the game....it was cold ... 2 deg. C.

The broom handle!!
Some frozen mack.
Some Clam ..........i collect my own.
