Big lure time.

Out at a mark that has a mixture of shallow and deep water, using 15 and 18cm lures.
Landed Two smaller fish about 3.5lb and 4lb on the 15cm lure.(both released)
This mark also has snaggy rocky outcrops under the water with plenty of weed and food i imagine!
Then in the shallow part casting parallel to the shore (not more than 10 feet out) i landed and released the fish in the photo below...5and3/4lb.
Nice fat fish!

No mack were around, or sprat but this was an evening seis and also had a few bites at the lures.....

ALL FISH WERE C&R.

Gurgler fly.

Fished a very shallow reef type mark at low water.
I could see sprat jumping and small pollack breaking the surface.
Switched to a floating line and a gurgler fly (floating popper).
Twitching it back got some small hits from pollack, then a big boil behind the fly....left the fly for 3 seconds and twitched it again.
Bang!
An explosion of water and fish!
Bass on!

Fly is green/white with a white foam top.
Photographed and released!

Bass on the fly.

Fishing for pollack with sinking line and a deep sinking clouser
and caught this fine Bass.
The fly was a bleeding clouser green/white and red with red eyes.
The mark is a deep rocky and kelp laden one.
Great fight!
Photographed and carefully released.

16th june open Bass season

Out tonight with fly rod and lure rod , but no luck.

Wind was blowing onshore and weed everywhere......

Fished popper fly "Gurgler" on a floating WF9 line, but struggled with the wind..

Switched to lures, and tried jelly eels .. shallow diving and shallow top water lures ..but no luck!

The weed just ruined any effective use of the lures..........

maybe next time.........................................................................................

Bass closed season.

Well the Bass season is closed for a month.
I'm blue in the face from trying to catch one.
Went to Ballycotton pier with my little girl last night to try for a couple of k9's.
No luck.
But put on a little size 8 hook and some split shot and landed a fine pollack.
About the size of a fish finger!!
I will be trying the deeper marks for a while with spinners and eels to try for pollack.
